He is best known for his exposition of Advaita Vedanta, a non-dualistic school of thought. Shankara wrote extensive commentaries on major Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Brahma Sutras, which are collectively known as Prasthanatrayi. Shankara established the Dashanami Sampradaya, a monastic order organized into ten branches, which continues to be influential in Hindu monastic life. He also founded four major mathas (monastic centers) in the four corners of India (Sringeri in the South, Dwaraka in the West, Puri in the East, and Badrinath in the North) to promote and preserve Vedic knowledge. Sharada Peeth is an ancient temple and one of the historic centers of learning dedicated to the Hindu goddess Saraswati, also known as Sharada, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and learning.
