As a mark of celebrating the World Palliative Care Day, Sanjeevan, Sri Aurobindo Society, in collaboration with AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Kasthurba College for Women Villianur, Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology, Lions Clubs International, & KMGIPSR, Puducherry, organized Spinal Cord Injury Patient’s Rally and Celebration of World Palliative Care Day at Sri Aurobindo Society on 18th October, 2024.

Shri K. Lakshminarayanan, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Government of Puducherry and Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Vice Chancellor (i/c), Pondicherry University, Puducherry inaugurated the rally near Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry. On this occasion, Dr Mohan Raja S, Medical Officer, Sanjeevan Palliative Care, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry, Guest of honour, Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Vice Chancellor (i/c), Pondicherry University, Puducherry shared innovative experiences related to Palliatiave Care.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kishor Kumar Tripathy, Member Secretary, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society said that the goal of palliative care is to help patients with severe, terminal illnesses live better lives. It provides patients and their families with all-encompassing care by attending to their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Dr Tripathy emphasized on the importance of World Palliatiev care day with emphasis on holistic approach, global relevance and community engagement for sustainability. 

Dr Hemanth, MD (HOD, Anaesthesiology – Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute), Puducherry, Dr Rema Devi, MD Professor Anaesthesiology- Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Puducherry, and Mr Vijaya Prasath, MPhil, PHD Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology, Puducherry graced the occasion. Award felicitation for the volunteers, and Student’s initiative in palliative care – SIPC activities by the students of MVIT (Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology), Kasthurba College for Women Villianur and & KMGIPSR, Puducherry were organized.

The annual International Day of Palliative Care highlights the importance of policies that support this essential component of healthcare, increases awareness of these advantages, and promotes improved access to palliative treatments globally.
