“Yoga is a methodised effort towards self-perfection by the expression of the potentialities latent in the being and a union of the human individual with the universal and transcendent Existence we see partially expressed in man and in the Cosmos.”-Sri Aurobindo

In honour of the 11th International Yoga Day, Dr. Kishor Kumar Tripathy spoke on the theme “One Earth, Unity, and Sustainability: A Modern Perspective on Yoga and Consciousness in the Light of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother” on June 18, 2025.

According to the vision articulated by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, the future of humanity is rooted in the evolution of consciousness, a process that is not distinct from the world but is intricately woven into its fabric. They perceived Yoga not as an escape from life, but as a means of transforming it. Through the practice of Integral Yoga, individuals engage consciously in the divine unfolding of the Earth’s destiny. Thus, unity and sustainability transcend mere environmental or political objectives; they emerge as spiritual necessities.

Highlighted that Sri Aurobindo asserted that all life embodies Yoga. The journey towards global unity commences with the inner realization that all beings are manifestations of a singular Divine Consciousness. This awakening dismantles the illusion of separateness, fostering compassion, collaboration, and a shared sense of responsibility. The Mother underscored the notion of Earth as a living entity, whose future hinges on humanity’s awakening to its role as a caretaker rather than a conqueror.

Addressing contemporary challenges related to sustainability, remarked that genuine change does not stem solely from policy initiatives, but rather from a transformation in human nature—from ego-driven exploitation to a soul-guided harmony with all forms of life. The present call is for a planetary transformation in which inner and outer ecologies develop in tandem.

From this viewpoint, “One Earth” transcends a mere slogan; it represents a profound realization of unity, where the divine, the human, and the natural realms coexist in conscious harmony—a new world moulded by elevated consciousness and illuminated by the principles of Integral Yoga.
