Museum Education and Outreach Programme

On the occasion of World Heritage Week, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry, in collaboration with the Department of Art & Culture, Govt. of Puducherry and Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre, Kalupadaghata, Odisha, organized an interactive session on ‘Museum Education and Outreach Program’ at Pondicherry Museum on 25thNovember, 2023.
Dr. Kishor Kumar Tripathy, Member Secretary, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, informed us about the significance of World Heritage Week and the role of museums in preserving the heritage.
Shri V. Kaliaperumal, Director, Department of Art & Culture, Govt. of Puducherry, spoke about the rich and vibrant cultural heritage of Puducherry, which exhibits a wide range of artifacts and narrates the story of the city’s rich cultural heritage. The museum is well known among history buffs and travelers looking to explore Pondicherry. He mentioned the rich collection of the museum, including stones, jewelry, coins, and statues excavated from the Arikamedu heritage site, which are displayed at the museum.
Ms. Charu Tripathy, Associate Director, AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, focused on museum education, collection, and outreach, which are vital components of a museum’s mission to engage and educate the public. She also emphasized on the purpose of Museum education focuses on creating learning experiences within a museum’s setting. The primary goal is to make the museum’s content accessible and engaging, fostering curiosity and critical thinking among visitors.
Students and faculty members of SAIEC explored the museum collection and interacted on various topics focusing on museum education.
